Saint Hill International Arts Festival Creating in the Arts
  Saint Hill International Arts Festival

Arts Festival 2008 - Snapshots from an inspirational week!

The Arts Festival is a huge splurge on creativity but that creativity is grounded in L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology® Technology. In a marvellous mix of theory and instant application, the group leaders and visiting artists create miracles over the week of the festival, but also strive to give the attendees some solid data to take away with them. There is no richer source of this data than the Scientology Basics and we were delighted to discover that 98% of attendees were on the Basic Book Courses or, in the case of some younger artists, an introductory course.

Welcome to the tent! A huge marquee providing a central base for the Arts Festival. This was Kevin Rush’s first appearance at any festival! From day one he was engaged in back-to-back debug interviews. The rave reviews from those he saw led to an unprecedented rush of sign-ups from all around the area, quite apart from the Festival! Eager attendees start to assemble inside the tent for the opening muster and seminar.

GALA CLASSICAL CONCERT

The Saint Hill International Arts Festival 2008 began with our acclaimed Gala Classical Concert.

The Mayor of Horley and the Lady Mayoress declared the Festival well and truly open. Judy Norton revealed her classical side and sang from Die Fledermaus. Suzie Muller flew in on a twenty-four hour window between concerts to play cello in Martin Sonneveld's international quintet

Thus began a week of incredible production on the aesthetic band:

• An art exhibition! • A photography exhibition! • Creation and installation of a The Way to Happiness® sculpture! • 50+ seminars and workshops! • 9 Celebrity and L. Ron Hubbard Scientology tech seminars! • 6 internal events! • 10 shows and other performances!

All in all almost 100 different happenings over six days! If that’s the Festival production – what must be the Festival morale?

CELEBRITY CENTRE® LONDON

Our Celebrity Centre Day offered greater involvement than ever this year from Celebrity Centre London.

Two Grammys, countless CDs and a high-profile career in the industry are not the only reasons for celebrity Robin Hogarth winning our Lifetime of Creativity award! He is, of course, President of the Festival and has served the aesthetic cause for many years! Chloe Wicks has been attending the festival since childhood. Seen here singing one of her own compositions, Chloe now performs at Celebrity Centre showcases and one such event gained her the interest of an industry manager. A collaboration is in process with a view to a contract. Celebrity of the future? Naturally! Woody Woodmansey has his audience riveted with stories of his Communication Course at Celebrity Centre International while touring with David Bowie. Woody maintained that an Ideal Celebrity Centre London would provide a haven of sanity for artists in the maelstrom of their working lives.

"Celebrity Centre will ensure that beings in power use their power to create a safe space, thus bringing about destimulation, and will bring people into aesthetics and speed the forward drive of creating a new civilization." — L. Ron Hubbard, Policy Letter 22 February 1970

MARIO FENINGER

Mario Feninger performs for the Ideal Organisations of the UK, an Arts Festival contribution to a Cleared UK.

Not only does Mario Feninger always bring the aficionados flocking to the Classical Concert, but this year he conducted his own whistle-stop tour of Ideal Organisation recitals across the UK.

Mario on stage at Saint Hill. In addition to his heavy concert schedule, Mario gave three performances during the festival itself. Liberal Democrat District Councillor, Jean Glyn and Italian artist Pier Paderni join those privileged to absorb some secrets of the Maestro’s technique in one of his master classes. Magical hands — these hands not only enthralled audiences up and down the country, but inspired them to lend their support to the creation of UK Ideal Organisations

"What is important is how much service you can give the world and how much you can get done and how much better you can make things. These are important things. These are all that are important." — L. Ron Hubbard, from The Genus of Dianetics and Scientology

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS CONFERENCE

The Festival validates those artists who are creating with their art across the dynamics to create effects in society.

The International Artists Conference is the place where goals are set and the realisations and wins from the Festival experience are formulated into plans to give similar wins to others across the planet.

Sara.H, DeLaPerouze and David Perroud work tirelessly for ABLE initiatives. Besides adding a stunning The Way to Happiness sculpture to the Saint Hill grounds and staging a Celebrity Centre London exhibition, Sara.H donated a sculpture to the Celebrity Centre Ideal Organisation fundraising. Benedicte Gandois receives her Arts Festival validation for La Lettre d’Arts. A multi-talented artist in her own right, Benedicte produces the lavishly illustrated monthly email newsletter which goes out to 150 artists across France. Mike Ricketts receives the accolade on behalf of Celebrity Centre London for the phenomenal achievement of more than 10xing the active field and volunteer hours statistics since the last festival!
Niki Lanik’s high profile as a true exponent of the art as the champion driver of the Youth for Human Rights Clio Racing Car makes him a fitting recipient of his Arts Festival Award. Awarded for his expansion of the Manchester Arts Festival into a monthly ‘Words and Music’. Steve Langley raced straight from the Festival to host the event and was rewarded with a highest ever attendance including some artists who had not been to the Organisation for a long time. We were delighted to be able validate Brighton Organisation’s Ollie Heath for his inspiring Youth for Human Rights workshops which he takes to more than twenty schools each week.

"Now, as we look over the role of a Scientologist in the society, we find , oddly enough, that a person controls just about as much as he has position on a Tone Scale." — L. Ron Hubbard, from Admiration and the Renaissance of Beingness

FASHION SHOW AND SHOOT

Making illusions: a fashion designer takes six months to prepare a show. At the Festival we pull it off in one afternoon!

Barrel-loads of aesthetic create, incredible speed of particle flow, several thousand safety pins and the illusion is brought to life in a matter of hours. Take several professionals, enthusiastic artists of many ages, put them into a tent full of a confusion of fabrics and suddenly order begins to emerge from chaos.

The theme for 2008 was MOCK-UPS, mock-ups pushed to the extreme with surrealistic make-up expanding on the jump-off points of Asian, African, Russian and Indian ethnic costume. From the tent to the shoot, where photographers get the opportunity to interact with a wild beauty in the English countryside setting. From the shoot to the runway – with the minimum of rehearsal – the models adopt the beingness and strut, float, pause and pose for an enchanted and uplifted audience.

"The most fun you ever had was when you made illusions." — L. Ron Hubbard, Introduction 23 June 1952, Technique 88 Lectures

YOUTH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

This is the third year that the Arts Festival has sponsored and encouraged the Youth for Human Rights Mural Project. One of our aims at the Festival is to highlight artistic initiatives in this area and encourage our young attendees to follow suit.

Despite the rain, the enthusiastic Youth for Human Rights supporters rally round the racing car. The Saint Hill driveway was lined with the Youth for Human Rights Murals produced with sponsorship from the Festival and destined for the UN supported Cairo Wall of Murals in 2010.

Age is no barrier at the Arts Festival! Within minutes of his arrival, Ollie Heath begins to gather enthusiastic drummers to beat out the Human Rights rhythm. This first workshop was the first of many that day, climaxing in the entire audience in the great hall learning to turn their bodies into percussion tools! A chance for boys of every age to find out what it takes to be a winning racing driver. Niki explains how he promotes the Youth for Human Rights message through his art. Niki Lanik is congratulated by ED CC London, Peter Bolgar.

"The artist, day by day, by postulating the new realities of the future, accomplishes peaceful revolution." — L. Ron Hubbard, from Science of Survival
